Kim Wempe
Kim Wempe is coming off an amazing year after moving to Halifax from the prairies. Nominated for Best Folk Recording, and Female Artist of the year, she has a rich throaty voice with great control and writes simple, touching songs. Good tunes well sung.
Gypsophilia
These guys are a joy and wonder to behold. Fantastivally gifted musicians all of them , they play a combination of jazz/swing/pop/funk with Django Reinhardt/Hot Club overtones. Contagious music that you can't takes your eyes or ears off.
The Stanfields
Thrash-Loud-Country-Punksters, these guys blow the lid off just about any place they play. Great country tunes in the mode of all three Hank Williams, combining the simple, memorable tunes and choruses of the patriarch with the hell bent for leather attitudes of his progeny. A rollicking good time.
Alert The Medic
Really well crafted rock tunes that are progressive/alt without getting sludgy or bogged down in shoe gazing. A highly regarded lineup of talent that plays on lots of tracks for others. Have honed their act through road wear and are all the better for it.
Mercy The Sexton
It is not often that you see a young band take a largely disinterested crowd and turn it into a hopping, dancing mess by the end of the night, but I saw these guys do it last year. SLowly but surely heads started to turn in the room as the set progressed and by the end the whole place was bopping.
